Made for Balloon Party 5! Amazing that I got on this album series after so long; thanks so much to Circuitfry, Clem, and Supersaw Hoover for setting the whole thing up, to dmc4everucci for discussing lyric ideas, and everyone who gave feedback when I tested out demos ^_^

This song was so much fun to write: playing out ideas in my head until they stuck, discovering new instrument sounds completely by accident, and letting the idea of the song grow into what it eventually became...


"What ponies commonly refer to as the “natural” is really a careful shaping and cultivation of the world: the result of hundreds of years of work to make an environment where ponies can thrive and maintain it. True Nature is a much more malevolent force which creates and destroys alike. The Everfree Forest is home to an abundant elemental magic, and it is where Nature survives. This magic, which manifests itself in all living things there, seems to have formed a sentient hivemind with no real centre. It (they perhaps?) refer to itself/themselves as The Light. We don’t quite know how Fluttershy managed to speak to this hivemind. Maybe she ingested some part of it that found its way into her brain and connected her. But in any case Fluttershy claims that what follows, and what I'm about to transcribe, is a message that she received in communication with this elemental magic.”
